Cam + Kyle — This story is bittersweet: Cameron had reached out to me to photograph her + Kyle’s wedding day, sadly, I was already booked. And me being me, I 100% creeped on Cameron’s instagram (that’s why we have social media right!?) and immediately fell in love with her vibe (and her apartment), so I was pretty bummed that I wasn’t available for the wedding. Did it stop me? NOPE. I expressed how much I adored everything about her and offered to take her + Kyle’s photos anyway if they were open to it (they were!).
As I was driving to their home, I realized they lived just blocks away from where I used to live in Chicago, so I was already like, “OK universe, I see what you did there.” This was totally meant to be. I got to take a little trip down memory lane and see what my old neighborhood had become over the years since I left. Nostalgia at it’s finest.
From the welcoming scents, background music and overall energy Cam + Kyle give off as humans, I felt right at home the moment I stepped through their front door. We were all a little nervous; Cameron + Kyle had never had their photos taken professionally before, and I of course have some anxieties before every session, but I mean it when I say those nerves lasted about 1 minute, MAYBE 2, and we were ready to start.
In-home sessions are my absolute favorite type of sessions, especially for couples who are nervous to be in front of the camera. It’s your home, the one place you are most comfortable, where you can be 100% yourself, the perfect place to tell your story. Cameron + Kyle’s apartment was decorated with intention, it showed who they are as people and as a couple, which is why I love these images so much. The painting on the walls were done by Kyle himself, Cameron picked out the furniture, and they’re both loving plant parents. This phrase is so overused, but fits this scenario perfectly — GOOD VIBES ALL AROUND.
I am always so grateful when a couple invites me into their own space. It’s such a vulnerable thing, to let a stranger into your home, but those images can tell the best story.
Thank you Cameron + Kyle for being so generous and so welcoming. I have so much admiration for the both of you.
